Johor Baru, police have arrested two women for allegedly being involved in unlicensed moneylending activities here.
Johor police commercial crime chief Asst Comm Mohd Salleh Abdullah said that the suspects, aged 28 and 18, were arrested in a series of raids at Bukit Indah, Gelang Patah and Ulu Tiram here around 8.30pm on Friday, Jan 29 night. "Initial investigations revealed that the two suspects were part of a loan shark syndicate.
"During one of the raids at a condominium in Bukit Indah, police seized various gadgets including three computers and 236 mobile phones," he said in a statement here on Saturday Jan 30. ACP Mohd Salleh added that the premises was believed to be a call centre for the syndicate. He said police were still carrying out investigations and searching for other syndicate members.
ACP Mohd Salleh also said the two suspects were being remanded under Section 5(2) of the Money Lending Act 1951. He also reminded the public to avoid dealing with loan sharks.
