A newborn baby girl was found abandoned at a stone bench of a Chinese temple at Kampung Hilir in Kubang Rotan near here.
A passerby, who wished to be known only as Sharifah, discovered the baby around 5.10pm on Saturday, Feb 6 when she noticed a suspicious-looking purple bag on the bench of the temple, which is located near SMK Kubang Rotan.
The baby girl was wrapped in a batik cloth inside the bag. The newborn's umbilical cord was still attached to her.
The baby was rushed to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for a health checkup.
Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Shukri Mat Akhir said police will carry out an investigation under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment.
