KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) denies that fake halal meat cartel activities have existed in the country for the past 40 years.
Its Deputy Minister, Datuk Rosol Wahid said, the report that said the existence of the cartel has been in the country for a long time has caused the people to be scared and has been magnified.
In the meantime, he explained, the main mastermind of the cartel who repackaged imported meat with the halal logo and sold it to markets throughout Malaysia in a warehouse in Senai, Johor will be revealed in the near future.
"We guarantee, do not worry about this issue. We have made monitoring and continue to monitor very aggressively.
So far, we have done a total of 29 inspections at wholesale premises and 130 retailers. We work with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI), Customs, and also the traders themselves.
