SYDNEY - Following concerns over the Covid-19 pandemic, Australia plans to vaccinate athletes who will participate in the Tokyo Olympics earlier before leaving for Japan.

Australian Sports Minister Richard Colbeck has confirmed that his party will provide the Covid-19 vaccine to its athletes before participating in the Olympics which will take place from July 23 to August 8.

It is understood that many countries involved in the Games have made preparations to ensure that their athletes receive the vaccine before going to Tokyo.

The Israeli Olympic Committee is among the first countries to do so and will complete the process by the end of May.

The spread of Covid-19 in Australia resulted in 909 deaths with 28,700 cases in the country with a population of 25 million.

The country is expected to distribute Pfizer vaccines in addition to being guaranteed to receive vaccines from Oxford / AstraZeneca, but it is not yet certain what kind of vaccine will be given to their athletes.
